The webcam runs live when John is cutting at his Stone Barn studio. Visitors to the studio can watch the silhouettes being cut at close range. The webcam has been positioned to give visitors to the website a similar experience.

The camera is placed slightly forward of John's left eye. This was as close to his own view that could be obtained without the camera being in his way.

The perspective of the webcam picture looks slightly strange because the drawing board John uses slopes towards him. This means he sees the picture as if from directly above, but the camera sees it with a slope from top to bottom. This does however give the best view of the papercutting.

Watchers of the webcam will see more than silhouette cutting. Whatever happens on John's table is in view, and as it is in a shop, the cutting regularly breaks as John explains his techniques to customers and sometimes frames their pictures.
Also, the hands disappear altogether when he is serving the customers or making a cup of tea!

All these things make up everyday life in the studio which is the experience the webcam is intended to capture. We hope you enjoy it.
